Venus a.k.a. “Boo-Boo”, “Boo-Be-Doo”, “Boobers”, “Queen V”, “V-Boo”
Venus was 18.5 years old when she passed. I had the privilege of sharing the last 8 of those years with her.
I adopted her when she was 10.5, after she’d spent 8 long months in a shelter. Her previous guardians had to surrender her when they moved into a care home—and, heartbreakingly, no one had adopted her because she was a black cat. Yes, in this day and age, superstition still gets in the way of love.
But then I saw her face scroll past in my feed one day, and I just knew. I wasn’t “ready” for another cat after losing my previous cat Mitzi—but the Universe had other plans. Venus came home with me in May 2017, and from that day forward, she made herself known as one of the greatest little lights I’ve ever known.
She was solid. Hilarious. A total character with a wicked sense of humour who made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. Her “woo-hoo” dances when I came home were legendary—she was always, always so happy to see me.
She was also with me through some of the hardest years of my life. Her love was constant, her presence grounding. And in her quiet, mysterious way, she taught me some of the most beautiful lessons I’ve ever learned about patience, resilience, and showing up with love.
By far, the sweetest soul I’ve ever had the honour of caring for.
I am eternally grateful to Lifting Stars for ensuring that Venus had a calm, gentle and loving transition. Thank you Jeff for your gentle and compassionate presence – it meant the world and there aren’t enough words to convey the depth of my gratitude to you.
Fly free, Venus, my sweet girl. I love you endlessly.
